Green Day and Walk to School

Friday 6 November was our last Green Day for 2015.
In the morning we had a special Green Day assembly.  During the assembly we reminded everyone about the importance of the things we can do every day to look after the environment.  Reduce, reuse and recycle – these are things that ALL of us can do!
We also recognised children who are great at looking after our environment with a special green certificate.
You may like to watch this Going Green clip that we shared during our assembly.
This Green Day our focus was on learning more about vegetables.  Our school has many wonderful gardens where a variety of vegetables grow!
We had a Wrapper Free Lunchbox Challenge – it was great to see so many healthy lunchboxes with no plastic wrap or packaging.
Our thanks to children, staff and families who dressed in green and came to school in a TravelWise way.
Keep up the great work Owairaka – together we can make a real difference!

Green day Term Three

On Tuesday 8 September we celebrated and reflected on our sustainability journey as a successful Enviro School.
We had a Powhiri to welcome our special Auckland City Council visitors who came to review us as a GreenGold School.
During our assembly we looked at the different Enviro initiatives in our school and celebrated all of the great learning and work we are doing.  We also acknowledged the importance of being TravelWise as part of being an Enviro School.
We had a Wrapper Free Lunchbox Challenge – it was great to see so many healthy lunchboxes with no plastic wrap or packaging!
Our thanks to children, staff and families who helped us share and celebrate our Enviro story.  A special thanks to Ms Christison and Miss Richardson for all of their hard work leading up to this day.

Book Week 2015

We had a very exciting Book Week!
There were lots of fun reading activities during the week. Each day we stopped, dropped and read when music played over the speaker.
We had special visitors reading to different classes during the week and guest readers at lunchtime in the library.  Teachers swapped classes and read to a different class – it was fantastic!  Thanks to parents and other family who came in and read to a class – awesome!
We also had a book swap. Children brought a book from home that they had finished reading and swapped it for a different book.
Our library was open before school and families enjoyed reading some books together.
Children enjoyed reading in different places around our school at lunchtime, including the under the big pohutukawa tree and in the Fale.
On Friday, we came dressed as our favourite book character. We had an assembly which included a play, special certificates and a parade of costumes. Everyone looked amazing!
Special thanks to Ms Mitchell and the library team for organising such a wonderful week!
